First Breath Mermaid Babies©

Look closely at these hand sculpted mermaid babies and you can see the air bubbles caught on their tails. After the birth, the mother brings the tiny mermaid baby to the surface for a first breath and the air bubbles cling to the baby’s tail. After the first breath, the baby is wrapped in a newborn blanket to keep warm in the cold Atlantic waters.

Each baby is sculpted by hand, often using three or four different polymer clays. Blankets come in a variety of colors. The face is hand painted and the baby is finished for durability. I have applied beads to every newborn’s tail to represent the air bubbles clinging to them. They are quite strong, but you must handle them with care, as they can break and become a chocking hazard. They are not toys, but works of art. They range in size from one to five inches long. Each mermaid baby will come signed. Like the mermaid babies they resemble, they are all one of a kind.
